The dual role I play at the Hancock School is as the Emerald Room teacher (Reading, Language, Math, and Social Studies) and Art Teacher for grades K-6.
Mrs. Kohn lives in Windsor with sons Ethan and Ben when they’re visiting home. She has a B.A. in English Literature from Oswego State and a B.F.A. in printmaking from the University of Massachusetts. Reading, music, art, and being in the great outdoors are favorite activities of hers.

In Social Studies, the 6th graders primarily study world geography while the 5th graders study American History. We study current events together.
Reading for understanding and writing clearly (and all that entails) is the primary goal in English. The language program called Project Read is what is primarily incorporated into the program. The joy of reading is what I hope each child will come to know in the Emerald room.
My overall goal is to foster a love of learning while promoting good relationships in the classroom.
In Art we explore many mediums through which students can express themselves (often after looking at and discussing the works of artists from many other times and cultures). I work with the other classroom teachers to connect art with their curriculum needs.
